Companies in Apple suit pessimistic on settling
Article Abstract:
Apple Computer Inc's copyright lawsuit against HP and Microsoft Corp is not expected to reach a settlement, and the law suit might not come to trial until some time in 1993. The lawsuit, which began in Mar 1988, alleges that the Microsoft Windows 2.03 graphical user interface and the HP NewWave program infringe on the copyrighted screen display of the Apple Macintosh. Apple's screen display is a major selling point for its Macintosh line of microcomputers because it makes the computer easier to use than the competition. Industry observers note that Apple, which is pushing to get the law suit to trial by Jan 1992, will add the popular Microsoft Windows 3.0 graphical user interface to the lawsuit. Microsoft and HP are motioning to get the entire lawsuit dismissed.
