Market smiles on H-P's first quarter
Article Abstract:
Hewlett-Packard Co's (H-P) 1st qtr 2000 performance, while falling short of its 1999 level, was enough to boost the company's shares to a record high of $129 and 3/8 per share. The company's profits fell to $794 million for 1st qtr 2000, a slight decrease from the $882 million it posted for the same period in 1999. Analysts said that H-P's profit decline is due to the fact that majority of its sales growth came from laptops and PCs, products that have narrow profitability.
