Gas hike miffs many, but USA still is sitting pretty
Article Abstract:
A nationwide increase in the prices of gasoline, up to $1.40 per gallon in California, has caused a number of complaints from vehicle owners and operators. Crude oil closed at $30.25 per barrel on Feb 18, 2000, the first time that it broke the $30-mark since 1991 but still significantly higher than the $10.72 per barrel price it had in Dec 1998. Despite the increases, however, economists are saying that, compared to earlier years, the prices of gasoline and other fuel products in the US continuous to be less expensive.

Could $1 worth of nylon have saved people's lives?
Article Abstract:
A federal safety investigation is being conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to look into possible defects in Firestone ATX, ATX II and Wilderness tires. Reports of four deaths and complaints due to accidents caused by the peeling of the tire treads have triggered the probe and the possible recall of the tires by Firestone. Experts claim that nylon belts placed between the rubber and the steel belts could have prevented the problem.
