Coutu plans $500-million stock sale: Drugstore chain hopes to take advantage of share price to help pay down debt

Canadian drugstore chain Jean Coutu Group Inc. announced in June 2004 that it would capitalize on its high share price with a planned Can$500 million stock sale to help pay down debts incurred buying Eckerd outlets in the US. By selling stock before the Eckerd deal closed, Jean Coutu would be able to cut back on the amount it needs to borrow and lower the cost of financing the deal.
