Charges filed in one of the worst accounting scams
Article Abstract:
Two former co-presidents at HBO and Co, a health care software company acquired by McKesson Corp in 1999, were indicted on Sep 28, 2000 on criminal fraud charges for allegedly inflating HBO's financial results by prematurely booking $40 million in sales from 1997 to 1999. The accounting scam resulted in a loss of $9 billion in market value for the merged company, McKesson HBOC. If found guilty, Albert Bergonzi and Jay Gilbertson could spend up to 10 years in prison and be fined up to $1 million each.
