PIlot strike looms at Delta on brink of travel season
Article Abstract:
Delta Air Lines Inc could be hit by a pilots stike as early as Apr 29, 2001, if the pilots union and the airline fail to agree on a new contract. A strike by Delta's 10,000 pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilot Assn, would shut down the airline on the brink of the summer travel season. The strike could also overlap another pilots strike at Cornair, a Delta-owned regional carrier, that already began on Mar 26, 2001.

Regional airline that could poise to change the industry
Article Abstract:
Observers say that no matter how the pilots' strike at Comair is settled, costs at the regional airline are bound to rise. Comair was once a little- known commuter airline flying 19- and 28-seat turboprop planes between its hubs in Cincinnati, OH, and Orlando, FL. It has seen exchanged the turboprop planes for regional jets that carry more passengers, flying to 95 cities in the US, Canada and Mexico. However, a first-time pilot at Comair still earns a maximum of $16,000 annually. That is the equivalent of a 40-hour week at $7.50 an hour in some places in the US.
