Coke faces snags in possible $16B Quaker deal
Article Abstract:
Coca-Cola Co is planning to acquire Quaker Oats for more than $16 billion in stock. The deal would enable Coca-Cola to wrest Quaker's Gatorade sports-drink brand from rival predators. However, the deal is not yet a done deal. Wall Street analysts who are not exuberant about the impending deal have sent the softdrink giant's shares dropping approximately 18% to close at $56.56 on Nov 20, 2000. The purchase of Quaker would also mean taking on a large portfolio of slow-growth snacks and cereals businesses.
