Merger turbulence ahead
Article Abstract:
Significant changes are expected to happen in the Canadian airline industry with the anticipated merger of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines International Ltd being planned by Onex Corp. Some observers are worried that a merger of the two carriers would create a monopoly supplier resulting in higher prices and lower service levels. Supporters of the merger, however, say a merged airline will be capable of more effective service with the use of 'hub and spoke' model.
