Icahn backs new bid for TWA
Article Abstract:
A three-cornered fight has emerged for the right to own Trans World Airlines (TWA) after the TWA Acquisition Corp, led by banker Brian Freeman and backed by corporate raider Carl Icahn offered $650 million for the bankrupt airline. AMR Corp, parent of American Airlines, had previously offered to buy TWA for $500 million, while the third bidder is Jet Acquisitions Group led by Ralph Atkins, founder of SkyWest Airlines. Freeman's group said it is willing to cover the $200 million that American provided TWA earlier and will infuse an additional $125 million in working capital to the bankrupt company.

United deal for US Airways may be hitting turbulence
Article Abstract:
United Airlines has suspended planning efforts for implementing its merger with US Airways, an indication that the plan is encountering opposition from antitrust regulators, according to some analysts and observers. Attorneys from the Dept of Justice have already taken sworn statements from executives of both airlines, and have lined up witnesses should the deal ends up in litigation. Antitrust regulators are concerned over the merged airline's dominance on the East Coast and at airports in the states of Washington and New York.
