Portals are sites on the World Wide Web, such as Yahoo!, Excite and America Online, that offer a combination of content and services. For some the term portal has negative connotations, suggesting the site is only a doorway to other sites. The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported in Nov, 1998, that 1.25 mil households had Internet access, a 50% increase over the previous 9 months.

Article Abstract:
Online polls allow ordinary people to express their opinions, but they can easily be manipulated. There is no way of knowing who is voting and how voter groups are behaving. However, online polls seem to be influencing politicians.
