Weston nears Unilever unit deal

George Weston Ltd. of Toronto will acquire the United States bakery business of the Unilever Group for between $1.75 billion and $1.8 billion (US) observers report. The deal comes as a surprise to industry experts who had expected Sara Lee to make the acquisition.
