Early Flood of Political Ads Saturates Airwaves in Iowa
Article Abstract:
Leading Democratic presidential candidates John Kerry, Richard Gephardt, Howard Dean, and John Edwards are saturating Iowa airwaves with record-setting political ads in anticipation of the Jan. 19 caucus. The four candidates have run 4,450 TV spots in Des Moines since last January compared with 850 Democratic ads that were seen during the 1999 campaign. This reflects a national trend. Democrats have bought 12,700 spots in the top 75 media markets during the last year, compared with 4,834 ads in 1999 during the same time frame.

CAMPAIGN IN IOWA IS CALLED PIVOTAL AND STILL CLOSE
Article Abstract:
There are only eight days until the 2004 Iowa Democratic caucuses and the campaigns of Howard Dean and Richard Gephardt are competing fiercely for the political edge in the presidential election year's first contest. Dean has made it a point of his campaign to appear in all 99 state counties during the past two years. He has been helped by the endorsements of Sen. Tom Harkin and former VP and 2000 candidate Al Gore. Gephardt, a winner of the 1988 caucuses, needs to win in 2004 to sustain the momentum of his campaign.
