Eastman Kodak split focus between old, new film worlds
Article Abstract:
Eastman Kodak Co, with its new CEO Daniel Carp, is trying to strike the right balance between the traditional photographic film market and the new digital photography market. Part of this strategy were the two announcements made by Carp in February 2000 at the Photo Marketing Assn trade show in Las Vegas, NV. These are Kodak's plan to form a joint venture with Hewlett-Packard and the launching of the Advantix Preview camera. The Advantix is similar to a digital camera but uses traditional film.

Choice to reward frequent stays
Article Abstract:
Choice Hotels International will launch a frequent-stay program on Oct. 2, 1998. Under the program, the hotel will give its guests the opportunity to get a free night for about 10 paid nights. Guests will be able to earn and redeem the points across brands at its 2,000 hotels. For instance, a guest can earn points at Sleep Inn, but can cash in the points earned at Comfort Inn, Econo Lodge, Quality Inn and MainStay Suite. Although Choice Hotels' program does not allow points to be earned on hotel food purchases as rival Marriott is doing in its program, Choice Hotel's new program is expected to raise competition in frequent-stay programs.

Kodak's CEO to retire short of turnaround
Article Abstract:
Eastman Kodak Co CEO George Fisher announced his retirement effective Jan 1, 2000 and will be replaced by COO Daniel Carp. Fisher is the architect of a massive restructuring of Kodak, which resulted in almost 20,000 job cuts and $1 billion expansions in new technologies and new markets. Fisher, however, will be retiring without seeing whether the restructuring has led to a turnaround, although analysts say he did stabilize the company.
