'More of the same' from GM?
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp has retained and promoted its current executive team. The automaker promoted G Richard Wagoner to CEO from president and chief operating officer, while retaining Jack Smith as chairman of the board, and Harry Pierce as vice chairman overseeing non-automotive operations. However, critics said that it was the same management team that missed the truck boom, neglected the company's Saturn brand and provoked a $2-billion strike by autoworkers in 1998.

GM, Ford eye import brands for trade group
Article Abstract:
The American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA) is considering a proposal to include as members all or most of the foreign companies that manufacture cars in the US. Expanding the membership of the Detroit, MI-only trade organization could provide the auto industry with more leverage in lobbying on safety and environmental regulations. Should AAMA's bylaws be amended to allow foreign membership, Volkswagen, with its Audi luxury division, is likely not be included because it does not make cars in the US.
