Economists see potential in Europe funds, euro
Article Abstract:
Europe's mutual fuds have dropped 6.2% in contrast to a 6.5% gain for the average stock mutual fund. However, Europe could be headed for stellar gains in 2001 depending on the performance of the pan-European currency. The Euro, which was introduced in Jan 1999 at $1.17, has climbed to 87 cents from a low of below 85 cents in Sep 2000. Other factors for a bull market in European stocks are falling unemployment and solid economic growth.

Many bond funds experience constant turnover

Bond fund managers have experienced the fastest turnover among all mutual fund management operations. According to Morningstar Inc, a mutual fund research firm, the average corporate bond trader has sold and bought 148% of its portfolio while government bond managers has traded 175% of its holdings. The higher turnover is usually done when interest rates rise, in which case, fund managers prefer shorter-term bonds.
