Ex-chiefs of Sotheby's, Christie's indicted
Article Abstract:
The former chairmen of Sotheby's and Christie's, A Alfred Taubman and Anthony Tennant, have been indicted by a federal grand jury on May 2, 2001. The indictment is the latest twist in a 4-year criminal probe into price fixing at the top of the $4 billion a year art auction industry. US prosecutors declared that the two executives took part in a 6-year conspiracy to fix rates charged to sellers of art, jewelry and furniture. If convicted, each faces as much as 3 years in prison and fines that could total more than $350,000.

Few predators, saviors chase dot-coms
Article Abstract:
The share prices of Internet have dropped sharply and the number of announced IPOs have also declined considerably since beginning of the year. Despite the sharp fall in their share prices, analysts think that Internet stocks are still overpriced and that their prices will have to fall before they can become attractive to buyers and investors. Owners of Internet firms have become aware that investors are now focusing on profitability instead of intangible factors such as the number of visitors who log into a Web site.

Web site to create program for TV
Article Abstract:
Web start-up Icebox.com has successfully developed online television program content when the first 13 episodes of the animated comedy series Starship Regulars are presented by Showtime. Icebox.com's success contrasts with the failure of several competitors headed by well-known Hollywood executives such as Pop.com, launched by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Seven Spielberg. Its success is partly attributed to its ability to bypass traditional distribution networks.
