Expressing yourself
Article Abstract:
Express Publisher 2.0 ($159.95), from Power Up Software Corp of San Mateo, CA, is a flexible, inexpensive desktop publishing program. Express Publisher includes many features, and for brochures, newsletters, catalogue pages and the like, printed output is not surpassed by programs that cost three to four times as much. There is an extensive selection of type fonts - eight altogether. Each can be rendered in bold, italic or bold italic style, and more fonts can be added. Express Publisher uses various kinds of graphics - TIFF, CGM, GIF, EPS, PCX and so on - so that available art is practically unlimited. The program runs on DOS 3.0 or later. It needs a graphics adapter and a Microsoft-compatible mouse. It comes on both 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch disks. It needs 3Mbytes of hard disk space, a full 640 Kbytes of RAM and it will use extended or expanded memory if they are available.

XTree: heavy-duty equipment for Windows cleaning
Article Abstract:
XTree Co's $99 XTree for Windows and PC-Kwik Corp's $129.95 WinMaster are two useful file management packages for use with the Microsoft Windows operating environment. XTree is a powerful tool that uses a tree metaphor to portray the structure of the computer's directories. Although XTree is more cluttered visually than the Windows desktop, it performs house-cleaning tasks on the computer's files and file structure with great simplicity. It includes XTreeLink, which enables files to be transferred along a cable linking two computers. WinMaster's toolbox-themed setup includes two particularly useful components. KwikInfo tracks general system parameters such as disk space, memory use and processor use. Power Disk helps a user reorganize, analyze and test the computer's hard disk drive. WinMaster's toolboxes allows the grouping of related applications and files.
