FCC may require digital TV tuners
Article Abstract:
The FCC may require new TV sets to be equipped with digital receivers, or tuners, to boost the sales of digital TV units. The proposal has been criticized by the Consumer Electronics Assn, saying the tuners would increase the price of TV sets by $1,000 per unit. However, the FCC says the inclusion of the tuners would benefit even analog TV sets since they can start receiving digital-quality pictures. The tuners would also allow the FCC to regain broadcasters' analog TV channels for use by wireless phone companies.

Feds to shore up rival Net services
Article Abstract:
The Federal Communications Commission is expected to announce rules designed to force regional Bell companies to further open their networks to other high-speed Internet access providers. The regional Bells have been criticized for the slow roll-out of high-speed Internet service compared with other platforms such as cable systems. With the new rules, the FCC hopes to accelerate the roll-out by providing the Baby Bells with competition.
