Bridgestone-Firestone Inc.'s media blitz got off to a shakey start when a snow storm prevented journalists from attending a tire testing facility tour in Fort Stockton, Texas. The company is trying to to repair its seriously wounded corporate image 148 deaths led to the recall of 6.5 million tires in August 2000.

Firestone strives to win back confidence

Firestone/Bridgestone Inc. is predicting a $500-million (U.S.) loss in 2000 as fallout from the 148 deaths linked to the company's tires. In January 2001 Firestone will embark on a huge advertising campaign in an attempt to restore consumer confidence.
