Market research services firm Engage has benefited from the public uproar over rival DoubleClick's use of personally identifiable information on Internet World Wide Web surfers. Engage CEO Paul Schaut believes that anonymous Web user profiling has and will continue to be the appropriate method to balance the power of marketing and consumers privacy rights. He has repeatedly underscored Engage's adherence to anonymous profiling and its support of consumer privacy to industry analysts.

Philip Morris: 'deal driven' or 'brilliant'?

Food industry analysts are divided on whether Philip Morris' plan to acquire Nabisco Holdings would benefit its Kraft Foods Division. Some say it would not be advantageous since Kraft is focused on cheese, mayonnaise and other slow food lines while Nabisco is centered on snacks, a fast- growth sector. Others say Kraft and General Foods would benefit from Nabisco's strength in promoting in-store sales.

Procter and Gamble Co told analysts that it is exerting efforts to become a leaner organization focused on new products. Company CEO Durk Jager announced a global initiative, called Organization 2005, which aims to improve sales and profitability by shortening the product development cycle. The reorganization, however, will result in 15,000 job cuts, 10,000 of which will occur over the next two years.
