Gun rules for flights will get input
Article Abstract:
The White House and the Justice Dept, as well as Sen Strom Thurmond, have assured law enforcement officials that they would have a role in rewriting rules on who can board aircraft with a gun. A troubling issue is how to develop tamper-proof identification for police officers. If a method cannot be found, the FDA may restrict persons that can board aircraft with guns to those from the FBI, Secret Service and its own security personnel. The proposal came after federal investigators slipped past security at the Ronald Reagan National Airport and Orlando International Airport using fake police IDs.

Microsoft worries order will drive workers away
Article Abstract:
Microsoft has asked Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson to suspend limits on its business practices during the appeals process, saying the limits may do irreparable harm to Microsoft's 35,000 employees, its shareholders, business partners and customers who rely on the company's products. Jackson had previously ruled that Microsoft be broken up in two separate companies, one focusing on the Windows operating system, and the other on software applications. He also required Microsoft to disclose Windows' inner workings to rivals and give PC makers more choice in features contained in Windows.
