First year of Net index teaches tough lessons
Article Abstract:
The Internet 100 index has gained 55% from its inception on Jun 30, 1999. However, mergers, investors' ennui and ill-conceived business plans have resulted in 24 of the original Internet 100 companies to be dropped from the index and replaced. Only 32 companies that are still in the index and trading by the 2nd qtr 2000 have proided investors with a pprofit. The top performers are Rambus, Juniper Networks, Redback Networks, Cehck Point Software Technologies and Copper Mountain Networks.

Broadband's slow start strangles shares
Article Abstract:
Communications equipment companies suffered a setback as their shares dropped on Oct 18, 2000, as investors realized broadband will not be deployed for some time. The difficulties in installing the technology are making the business less profitable. The profit squeeze as well as the Nasdaq's crash is causing trouble for many of the broadband companies to raise financing that will fuel their expansion.

AOL link is a pothole for some, but not for TheStreet.com
Article Abstract:
Online financial Web site TheStreet.com's shares rose 14% following its announcement of a marketing deal with America Online Inc (AOL), the nation's largest Internet service provider. However, stocks of 24 other companies that have tied up with AOL did not fared so well. Stocks of some of those companies only rose 1% the day their deals with AOL were annnounced, while some even fell.
