Landlords grow leery of dot-coms
Article Abstract:
Real property lessors are opting for larger, more stable firms as renters. High-technology companies used to be so popular that they could secure a prime office location by promising the building owners a stake in the company. However, those days are over and landlords are no longer enamored of stock options due to the fluctuations in the Nasdaq and the failure of dot-com companies. Landlords are using a selective criteria in choosing credit-worthy companies. Start-up companies which find office space must often pay a premium for second-rate buildings and must provide months of rent upfront.

Customer data exposed through OfficeMax site
Article Abstract:
Programmers were working on a security flaw on OfficeMax's Web site after customers' personal information, including credit card numbers, were exposed to online users. The flaw has existed since the site was revamped in Jun 2000 but the company became aware of it only seven months later when a promotion drove a lot of traffic to the site. More than 1.4 million users visited the site in Jan 2001 but it could not be determined how many consumers were affected by the fault.
