Fliers go the distance to avoid paying high airfares
Article Abstract:
Travelers paid the highest airfare premiums at airports in Charlotte, NC; Cincinnati; and Richmond, VA, in that order. Also, these airports lack service from discount carriers known for low fares. This is based on a Dept of Transportation (DOT) study of airfares in 4th qtr 2000 on over 4,000 routes of comparable passenger volume and distance at 90 US airports to determine average fares travelers pay. On the other hand, the DOT found that travelers pay lowest average fares at airports in Atlantic City; Myrtle Beach, SC; and Tampa.

Frustrated travelers shun United for on-time flights
Article Abstract:
Some corporate customers and travelers have shifted to other airlines because of the frequent delays and cancelled flights of United Airlines. The airline is having labor problems because of ongoing contract negotiations with its pilots and mechanics. The refusal of some employees to work overtime has caused United to cancel about 4,800 flights since May 2000. It also plans to cancel 1,980 in Sep 2000 and another 1,944 in Oct 2000.
