For pace car Aztek, it's not hip to be square after all
Article Abstract:
General Motor Corp's Pontiac Aztek will be the pace car for the Daytona 500 NASCAR race in Florida in Feb 2001. The company has hoped that the Aztek would be the most popular thing in 2001 and has predicted sales of 70,000 units a year. The estimate is down to approximately 50,000 and may go even lower to about 25,000. The lowered estimate is due to people's attitude towards the car's design, particularly its angular, bulging rear end. The failure to catch on is especially galling to the company since Aztek is its first crossover vehicle, the segment that is expected to be hottest in a few years.
