The proposed merger between British Columbia-based Canadian National Railway Co. and Fort Worth, Texas-based Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. is being criticized by rival North American railroad companies. The merger is opposed by Norfolk Southern Corp., Union Pacific Corp., Canadian Pacific Railway Co. and CSX Corp.

Tellier vows to keep pushing CN-BN merger

The proposed merger between Montreal, Que.-based Canadian National Railway Co. and Fort Worth, Texas-based Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. has been delayed by a U.S. government-imposed moratorium on rail mergers. CN, which is led by chairman Paul Tellier, is attempting to have the moratorium lifted in US courts.

Canadian National Railway Co. proposed merger with Fort Worth, Texas-based Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. has been delayed by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board. Canadian National Railway, which is led by chief executive officer Paul Tellier, expects the merger to be completed in 2001.
