GM Boss sets sights on 28% global share

General Motors CEO G Richard Wagoner predicts that the automaker will increase its global market share from 25% to 28%. Wagoner based his calculations on the strength of the company's improving global operations, particularly in developing markets and its strategic alliances. He expects to increase GM's wholly owned brands from a 16% global share to 20%. He also predicts a 5% net income margin, a 6% to 8% annual revenue growth and a 15% return on net assets.

Union works alongside Chrysler

DaimlerChrysler's relations with the United Auto Workers is so smooth that union President Stephen Yokich says he expects to have the firm's support to organize the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance, AL. The good relationship is attributed to DaimlerChrysler's deep pockets without which the Chrysler Group might be going out of business. Although company executives said that the union would have to share the company's pain as it restructrued because of mounting losses, no adjustments have been made in the union's contract.

GM adds child-in-hot-car sensor to host of reminders for drivers
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp has announced the development of a radar system designed to prevent children and pets from suffocating in cars on hot days. The system is among an increasing amount of nanny technology being put in cars to save passengers and drivers from themselves. The technology, which is due by 2004 at the latest, uses radar to detect motion and temperature. The system is sensitive enough to locate a sleeping baby.
