Pets.com to put puppet on Bowl ad

Pets.com, an online retailer of pet products, is placing its famous Pets.com Sock Puppet on advertisements for Super Bowl XXXIV. The puppet, which has gained a cult following, aims to distinguish the online firm from 15 other dot-com advertisers to the game. Pets.com hopes to recover from a loss of $61.8 million on $5.8 million in sales through Dec 31, 1999, and is also eyeing an IPO to generate around $70 million in funds.

Super Bowl scores job Web site ads

HotJobs.com and Monster.com are competing for a bigger share of the Super Bowl ad spots. HotJobs was beaten by Monster which announced a buy of two in-game and wo pre-game spots on Sep 20, 2000, in comparison to HotJobs' one in-game and three pre-game commercials. For their latest round, the two rivals will have new ad agencies and campaigns. The cyber war between the two job boards started in 1999 when HotJobs gambled half its revenue to buy a spot. The fight continues as the dot-com marketers suit up for the Super Bowl on CBS on Jan 28, 2000.

Domino's Pizza ads deliver puppet menace

Domino's Pizza Inc's new television advertisements feature a mischievous Muppetlike puppet called 'Bad Andy.' The puppet was created by Jim Henson Co. The four 'Bad Andy' commercials were developed by New York, NY-based Deutsch Advertising to show consumers how pizza is made at the 4,700 Domino's stores across the country. The spots generated mixed results in the Ad Track consumer poll.
