GM plans auto Web site that will provide data on rivals' vehicles, too

General Motors Corp is planning to create Web site that will provide product and pricing information on its own vehicles and also on vehicles of its competitors. The site, which will be 100% owned by GM and its dealers, will be promoted as independent and unbiased and will not reveal the identity of its owners. GM decided to build an independent site after realizing that the reach and online traffic of its GMBuyPower.com was limited.

Icahn amassing up to 15% of GM

Investor Carl Icahn has informed General Motors that he intends to acquire $15 million worth of GM stock and to up to 15% of GM. Auto industry analysts opine that Icahn will likely find allies to help him pressure GM to sell Hughes Electronics, the owner of DirecTV, the most successful satellite television company. Another analyst said Icahn could encounter difficulty in pressuring GM to unload Hughes because GM has used the value of Hughes in benefitting its stockholders.
