GM seeks hot-rodder thrills with retro-look 2002 pickup

General Motors Corp announced that it intends to build the Chevrolet SSR, a two-seater hot-rod pickup. The SSR, which stands for Super Sport Roadster, will be propelled by a V-8 engine and features a folding power roof. It is expected to be introduced into the market by 2002 and have a price of $30,000 or higher. The SSR, which features a retro-look, was introduced as a concept vehicle at the Detroit auto show in Jan 2000.

SUVs bleeding at the gas pump

Owners of sport-utility vehicles are now paying more for their gasoline due to sudden increase in fuel prices. Nationwide, prices of regular gasoline have increased 56% to an average of $1.42 per gallon, compared to 90.2 cents a year ago. US sales of SUVs increased 17% in Feb 2000 over Feb 1999 despite the fact that mileage of SUVs are as little as 10 miles per gallon in city driving.
