Hewlett-Packard redefining itself

Hewlett-Packard Co has announced its plans to focus on its C$47.1 billion computer and printer operations. The company will spin off its $7.6-billion electronic testing and measurement equipment business as a separate company via an initial public offering by the end of 1999. The company's planned split is expected to boost its growth prospects which dimmed after the company's spectacular sales growth from $16.4 billion in FY92 to $47.1 billion in 1998.
