Hurricane of heresy
Article Abstract:
Religious fanatics variously declare that the devastation of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina is God's vengeance upon a wicked city that enjoys Mardi Gras or a state that allows abortion, while environmentalists blame it on global warming. Yet, data from the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory suggest that the hurricane marked the beginning of a warm Atlantic phase, and thus an active Atlantic hurricane era was possibly under way, similar to that last seen from the late 1920s to the late 1960s.
