Husky reports steep profit drop

Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd of Bolton, Ontario, has announced profits of $15.2 million or 14 cents a share on sales of $708.2 million in for the FY99 ended Juluy 31, down from $45.6 million or 45 cents a year on $762 million. The company reported that sales declined by 16% and 48% in Europe and Asia-Pacific, respectively, offsetting the 7% sales growth in the Americas. Husky is expecting further declines in profits due to lower sales volumes, less favorable product mix and growing startup costs.

EdperBrascan earnings climb 20% in 2nd quarter

Conglomerate EdperBrascan Corp of Toronto, Ontario, has posted a profit of C$130 million or 62 cents a share in the 1st half 1999. The company had a profit of C$322 million or $1.71 a share in the year-ago period mainly due to to the C$200-million sale of Norcen Energy Resources. EdperBrascan reported a 20% growth in net profit to C$72 million in the 2nd qtr FY99a s a a result of robust US economy and improving profit margins.
