Imports grab lead in luxury vehicle sales
Article Abstract:
Imported cars top the list of automobiles sold in the US in 1999. The leading luxury brand could either be Germany's Mercedes-Benz or Japan's Lexus, and not the Lincoln or the Cadillac. As of Nov 1999, Mercedes recorded sales of 170,319 units with Lexus coming in second at 169,025. Cadillac placed only third at 161,941 while Lincoln sold only 159,996. The major reason seen for the increase in imported luxury car sales is the income increase among baby boomers who have an affinity for foreign plates.
