Industry resists rules to policy trading: Firms left to adopt their own policies

Canadian securities regulators and the mutual fund industry have failed to introduce rules to detect and deter abusive trading practices, leaving companies to tackle the issue by themselves. The policies aimed at curbing a practice that hurts long-term investors vary widely from company to company as mutual fund companies are not able to agree on a set of industry-wide rules.

Business rips provincial passport plan
Article Abstract:
A meeting in Calgary held by ministers representing nine provinces and three territories signed an agreement, which called for incremental changes including the adoption of the passport system. The publicly traded companies and brokerage firms would deal with one provincial or territorial regulator rather than 13 while accessing the markets.
