Montreal-based pharmacy titan Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc. has tested the US market, built a sizable business there, and shows willingness to go for substantial scale in a $2.4-billion deal. It has purchased more than 1,500 Eckerd drugstores while Coute's measured approach has become a role model for Canadian operators south of the border.
