Many Canadians are angry that corporations earned record profits of $66 billion in 1995, but are still laying off workers. The average private sector worker received only a 1.9% pay increase in 1995, while executive pay increased substantially. Unemployment is becoming a major political issue.

Business moves in: with no U.S. competition, Canadian firms score in Cuba
Article Abstract:
Approximately 40 Canadian firms have set up offices in Cuba since 1991, and at least 17 have negotiated joint ventures with Cuban agencies. The departure of Russian firms and the US embargo have presented opportunities for Canadian businesses. Several deals are discussed.
