Judges could consolidate lawsuits against Ford, Firestone
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Corp and Bridgestone/Firestone Inc face various lawsuits which a panel of judges in Washington, DC, are thinking of lumping together. The consolidation of class-action lawsuits against the automaker and the tire manufacturing company is welcome to the two firms. However, lawyers representing individuals injured in accidents involving Firestone tires on Ford vehicles believe that consolidating the cases would delay their lawsuits. Going through discovery is expected to last a year or longer, according to the lawyers.

Lawsuits against Firestone could total $50 billion
Article Abstract:
Bridgestone/Firestone is facing a potential $50 billion in damage claims from lawyers. Attorneys expecting the company to file for bankruptcy are attempting to add the company's Japanese parent, Bridgestone, to their lawsuits to protect their clients' ability to collect. Bridgestone/Firestone spokeswoman Karen Doyne declared that the parent company should not be involved in the lawsuits since the tires were designed in US and Bridgestone/Firestone US has claimed responsibility for the tires.
