Analysts: did Palm's IP fly too high?
Article Abstract:
The oversubscription of Palm Computing shares has become a problem for the firm, maker of the Palm organizer and its parent company, 3Com. Palm shares increased by 150% to $95 1/16 in its Mar 2, 2000 initial public offering, giving the firm a market value of $54.3 billion. The IPO price range had been increased from an initial range of $14 to $16 and ended up at $38 each. The problem is that 3Com has a market value of only $28 billion. Analysts opine that Palm's market value is not sustainable even after it is sold in about six months.

Last Internet sector left standing soon may fall
Article Abstract:
There are indications that the infrastructure sector of the Internet systems industry could soon face a shakeout of their share prices. Analysts cite the $5 drop of Cisco Systems' share price to $62.75. This was attributed to investors' concern about Cisco's valuation, causing a decline among other technology stocks. Analysts, however, also said that infrastructure firms have more options and are more resilient compared to unprofitable firms such as Concentric Network, Northpoint Communications and Teligent.

Investors turn to tech as blue chips sink
Article Abstract:
The Dow Jones industrial average has plummeted by 94.71 points to 11,087.47, which brings it down by 3.6% in 2000. Concerns about the adverse effects of rising energy prices and the sinking euro on corporate earnings are the factors that are pushing blue chips lower while investors are turning to technology stocks. As a result, technology stocks have attained modest gains. The Nasdaq composite increased by 19.97 points to 3913.86.
