Toronto, Ont.-based T. Eaton Company Ltd. will sell the last of its assets, including paintings and executive office furnishings, in an auction after declaring bankruptcy. T. Eaton, which will sell 3,000 items in its fourth assets auction, filed for bankruptcy in 1999.

St-Laurent Paperboard in takeover talks

Montreal, Que.-based St. Laurent Paperboard Inc., which is a major cardboard producer, announced that it is engaged in merger negotiations. Industry analysts said that St. Laurent Paperboard, which has $450 million in debt, has been valued at about $2 billion.
