Leaky boat of globalisation
Article Abstract:
Australian Prime Minister John Howard and the Danish Liberal Party have each recently won elections based partly on their hard line approach to asylum seekers. A recently published book indicates that a move toward globalization in the late 1800s and early 1900s was ended by mass migration (36 million people) from Europe, which depressed wages in the target countries and boosted them in the countries of origin. Backlash against migration also impeded efforts at increased globalization in the period between the World Wars.

Article Abstract:
The willingness of the United States to make a pre-emptive strike against Iraq has caused some rethinking of policy in North Korea and its neighbors. Although no one had backed US calls for multilateral talks about North Korea's nuclear program before the Iraq conflict started, sevearl countries in the region have now changed their stance. The US action has also signalled the world that it can and will bypass the UN and NATO to act against rogue nations.
