Magazine legislation delayed for months
Article Abstract:
The passage of Bill C-55, a measure that aims to provide Canada's magazine industry protection over foreign rivals, could be delayed for months. The Reform party is expected to introduce amendments to the bill, a move that will result in a lengthy debate and delay of the passage of the bill to third reading. Since Oct 1998, Canada's magazine industry has remained unprotected when Ottawa was required by the World Trade Organization to eliminate a ban on split-run magazines because it violated international trade laws.

Grain farmers get sweetened crop insurance
Article Abstract:
Flood-affected grain farms get a reprieve as the federal and Saskatchewan governments announced improved crop insurance programs. Federal Agricultural Minister Lyle Vanclief and Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Eric Upshall say the new program increases farmer eligibility from $25 to $50 per unseeded acre and decreases deductible on coverage from 10% to 5%. Both officials emphasized the need for farmers to participate in more crop insurance programs.
