Maple Leaf plans public sale of doughnut, bakery chains

Maple Leaf Foods Inc., a large food processor based in Toronto, Ontario, intends to consolidate its Bun Master bakery stores and Country Style doughnut outlets into one firm. Maple Leaf would then let the new company called Country Style Food Services Inc. go public. Maple Leaf is expected to appoint vice-chairman and chief executive officer Archibald McLean as the new executive chairman of Country Style Food. McLean will be foregoing his planned resignation from Maple Leaf on December 31, 1998, to pursue this new career opportunity.

Semi-Tech files for U.S. bankruptcy protection
Article Abstract:
Canadian holding firm Semi-Tech Corp announced on Sep 8, 1999 that it filed for Chapter 11 of the US bankruptcy laws and that it expects to continue its operations while a reorganization is being formulated. Semi- Tech said it filed for bankruptcy protection as a result of the filing of court protection in Germany by a unit of Singer Co NV, a firm whose shares are 49.6% owned by Semi-Tech.
