Mechanics deal puts union on map
Article Abstract:
The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Assn (AMFA) has gained respect after concluding a new labor contract for Northwest Airlines' 9,000 mechanics. The contract would raise mechanics' wages by 37% over four years and more than double pension benefits. AMFA is the brainchild of OV Delle-Femine, its national director, who for 35 years has been advocating that mechanics should have their own specialized union. Delle-Femine says the Northwest contract proves AMFA can close a deal.
