Article Abstract:
The 80th anniversary of the creation of the mutual fund industry will pass most likely without any sizable fanfare because of the recent scandals involving exploitation of market timing and late day trading to the benefit of favored investors and clients. Seven industry leaders provide perspective on how and why the illegal trading occurred and what the industry must do to restore investor confidence. There is general agreement that the rule of pricing mutual funds only once daily at the end of trading at 4:00 PM should change.
