Outgoing chief of National Asset Bank, Don Argus, says he has given up lobbying, but is trying to educate Australian cabinet ministers in the benefits of bank mergers. His opinion is that unless banks become more efficient through mergers, they will not be able to help Australia out of its next economic downturn.
