I2 to buy Aspect for $9.3 billion in record software deal

Aspect Development Inc of Mountain View, CA, will be acquired by I2 Technologies Inc of Dallas, TX, in a stock deal valued at $9.3 billion. The purchase, which has eclipse the $4-billion union of Sterling Commerce and Computer Associates in Feb 2000, is expected to create a dominant force in the realm of business-to-business software products. The new I2 company will have almost $500 million in revenues and 4,000 employees.

Microsoft, AOL, Time Warner top estimates; software giant avoids battering taken by tech stocks this quarter

Microsoft Corp has posted decent earnings on Oct 18, 2000 on solid sales of software for corporate computers. Its earnings for its first quarter increased 30% to $2.6 billion, or 46 cents per share, from $2 billion, or 38 cents, in the comparable quarter in 1999. The results do not include a $375 million charge to comply with new accounting rules. It also posted $5.8 billion in revenue which shows an increase of 7% from $5.4 billion in the corresponding period in 1999.

Oracle sees future as No. 1 software source on Net

Redwood, CA-based Oracle Corp has set a goal of becoming the number one software provider on the Internet. To achieve this goal, the world's second-largest software company, which already controls 40% of the global market for database software, has adopted several strategies.
