Prosecutors favor plan to break up Microsoft
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp's anticompetitive behavior is expected to be punished with the breakup of the computing giant. Government prosecutors, who are said to have reached a consensus on the matter, are expected to submit an offer that will result in the division of the firm. Microsoft, which has been accused of using its monopoly of the operating system that operates 90% of the world's personal computers to bully its competitors, is expected to resist any suggestion of a split of its business.

Microsoft: Justice plan contradicts '95 stance
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp contends that the government's plan to divide the company is contrary to the Justice Dept's stand in a 1995 case that breaking up the software giant would not promote the public interest and competition. In that case, the Justice Dept had proposed measures to prevent Microsoft from imposing restrictive contracts to discourage PC manufacturers from installing other operating systems on their computers.

Microsoft appeal puts prosecutors on the defensive
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp filed its appeal on a ruling made by Judge Thomas Penfield Jakson on Jun 2000, agreeing with the government plan to to split Microsoft into one company for Windows and another for software on Nov 2000. Inr response, the government made its major court filing on Jan 14, 2001, urging the Court of Appeals to uphold Judge Jackson's order. In its filing, government prosecutors also defended post-trial statements made by Judge Jackson, saying that these do not show his lack impartiality, which is otherwise alleged by Microsoft.
