The administration of George W. Bush has sent to Canadian officials a document outlining options for lifting duties on softwood lumber imported from Canada. However, the administration acknowledged that only the softwood lumber industry in the U.S. can guarantee access to the market.

Microsoft to pay out $75-billion of cash hoard: Money covers dividends, share buyback

Microsoft Corp. Inc. decided to pay $75-billion as its first-quarterly dividend in 2004 and make a massive one-time special dividend payout and buy back $30-billion in stock. Microsoft announced that it would pay an 8-cent--s-share quarterly dividend next year, make a $3-a-share, one-time, special cash payout in December, and spend another $30-billion to buy back shares over the next four years.
