Minority support
Article Abstract:
The congressional democrats who are in the minority in both the house and the senate have introduced several bills that aimed at ensuring that the pharmacies provided ready access to birth control and emergency contraception as well as measures to expand access to birth control. It was therefore concluded that, this measure would limit the demand for abortions and many democrats would gain support from their anti abortions leading to an increase in the political respectability of the measures to expand contraceptive access.

Legal arguments
Article Abstract:
Justice Department lawyers have urged the US Supreme Court to defer to Congress and uphold the federal ban on 'partial-birth abortions', while opponents want the court to follow its six-year-old precedent and strike down the 2003 law. The House and the Senate passed slightly different versions of the bill in 2006 and if approved and signed by George W. Bush, the bill would be the only major abortion-related measure to emerge from the current Congress.

'Partial-birth abortion' case divides doctors
Article Abstract:
Many medical experts have disagreed with the lawmakers, who have declared that the controversial procedure of partial-birth abortion is never medically necessary and poses significant health risks for the patient. Six obstetricians, along with the National Abortion Federation, would be joining in a friend-of-the-court brief urging the Supreme Court to strike down the federal ban.
